# 11.2 Ethics Board Ethics is critical in minimizing the risk of harm. Central to the function of the Synesis Foundation is the Ethics Board, with its members drawn from a cross section of academia, non-profits, and the Synesis One community. Members are proposed by the Foundation and confirmed by community vote. The board will be tasked with ensuring the safe and ethical use of AI data – including the creation and codification of upper-level ethical ontologies that supersede all others.
